VETERAN FOOD INSECURITY
More than 130,000 Veterans are homeless and hungry on any given night in America. One in three homeless people in America is a U.S. Military Veteran , with nearly four million Veterans and their families suffering from food insecurity during the year.
American Military Families Action Network local solution is our USAVET Food Bank . American Military Families Action Network serves the local Pierce County/South king county veterans, including disabled Veterans that receive care at the local VA hospital(American Lake of the Puget Sound Health care system.
The USAVET Food Bank has been designed to serve veterans, active duty Soldiers and Sailors, their spouses and children in Pierce County/ South King County located in Washington State. whose circumstances have left them on the battlefield of hunger, and to involve the public in fighting Veteran hunger.
Through gracious donation donated by local farmers, food manufacturers and grocery stores. USAVET Food Bank is able to distribute free food and groceries at regular, scheduled times to U.S. Military Veterans in need and their families. We strive to provide healthy food for veterans in need.
We provide non-perishable food items, household goods, pet food, clothing, food and gas cards to veterans and service members who are in need. When funding permits we also provide bill or emergency assistance. We have annual Thanksgiving & Christmas turkey and ham boxes we distribute to those who sign up to receive one and we have the donations of items or funding to provide holiday food items.
We support our local active duty service members by providing nonperishable food items, snack, toiletries and partnering them with a family service specialist.
We need your support
Our nation’s military Veterans have served and sacrificed for our freedom. Many are returning from war to a weak economy, and struggling with injuries, both physical and mental. Too many Veterans are ending up jobless and homeless. Too many are going hungry. We believe it is our duty to give back to these men and women who have given so much for our country.
We love our customers, so feel free to visit during normal business hours.
